In 1992, The America’s Cup Hall of Fame was created in order to pay homage to the most distinguished challengers of the race.  The center is located at the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol, Rhode Island and contains several exhibits that highlight the accomplishments of the inductees.

The Hall of Fame inductions are based on a person’s character, contributions and performance in the America’s Cup.  There have been over fifty inductees into the Hall of Fame and they have spanned over the entire span of the race’s history.  To be eligible for consideration, you must have contributed to the race in some type of capacity.  Members include skippers, managers, supporters, builders, crew and designers.  The main requirement is that they must have made some type of outstanding contribution to the sport.

To honor the inductees and the race, memorabilia is proudly displayed throughout the facility.  Wheels, spars, and tanks test model hulls are all famous leftover artifacts from this prestigious regatta that can be seen by visitors.

There are numerous photos and videos available at the museum.  Visitors are able to relive some of the most famous matches and also see the difference between the boats of today and the ones of yester year.  Half models of many challengers and defenders ensure that these vessels will stay remembered.

This competition, taken place for over a hundred fifty years, has a wealth of history that needs to be preserved.  The Hall of Fame ensures that the memorable challengers and defenders are not soon forgotten.
