Hugo Schubert was born in the Swedish town Norrkoping in 1863. He was educated at the university Chalmers in Gothenburg, Sweden. During the 1890 he started working at the Finnboda Yard as boat builder and designer. He quickly got attention as a great designer as one can read in an article in “Tiding for Idrott” in 1894. Here they comment on his newly built design the “JANTAN”. The article says “Successful design, with beautiful lines and no fin or bulb keel”. In 1898 he was offered the job as manager for Malarvarvet (yard). Nine years later Hugo Schubert decided it was time to start his own business so in 1907 he started Saltsjobadens Yard. He ran this yard until 1924.Later in life, during the later half of the 1930’s, he was also the manager for the well known yard “Hastholmsvarvet”. Some of the yachts designed by Hugo Schubert: |
