Knud Reimers was born in Denmark in 1906. He was taught boat building and design at the German yard Krupp-Germania Werft in Kiel in the 1920’s. one of his mentors was the famous yacht designer Henry Rasmussen from Abeking & Rasmussen in Bremen, Germany. Together they shared the idée and dream of building faster sailing yachts.

In 1930 Knud Reimers bought the design office run by Gustav Estlander in Stockholm, Sweden and established him self as a successful square-meter yacht designer.
Knud Reimers also designed other yachts, one of the most successful one designs is the double ended offshore racer “Tumlaren”. This boat was clearly inspired by the square-meter rule but made to sail offshore. Several where built and Tumlaren can still today be found all over the world.
Knud Reimers came to dominate the square meter yacht designing in Sweden, and still today boats are being built to his designs both in wood and plastic.
The 75 square meter yacht Bacchant is legendary and still races out off Milwaukee Yacht Club in Chicago, USA.
Other yachts designed by Knud Reimers that deserve to be mentioned is the 25 m yawl Agneta built in 1958, she was owned and raced in the Med by her famous owner Giovanni Agnelli until the mid 80’s.
Knud Reimers died in 1987.
