The “12’s” have always been the “cream de la creme” in the International Metre rule fleet. Even if there are bigger classes with the 23mR yachts, the 12’s have always been seen as the master of the class. This is largely due to the fact that the Int 12m R yachts used to be the cooise of Americas Cup racing for many years. This led to a quick development not only in the 12mR yachts but also in the smaller classes, and mostly in the 6mR yacht class as they where often seen as mini 12’s.

Since 1907 when the International Meter Rule came in to effect there has been several successful designers who have mde famous racing yachts in the 12m R class. The most famous of all 12mR yachts would probably be Australia II who was the first Americas Cup contender to win the cup from the Americans and there for ending the longest running victory streak in any Cup history!
Today the 12mR yachts are both raced around the world and many of the old Americas Cup yachts are now days converted to half cruing and half racing yachts instead of the pure racing breads they used to be.
Several classic wooden 12m R yachts are still nopt only sailing but ofcourse still racing actively and many are used for day time charter often selling corporate entertainment packages!

We have gathered a list of known 12m R yachts, some still sail some don’t any more. We are working on completing the list.
